Elon Musk, the billionaire entrepreneur behind Tesla, SpaceX, and the social media platform X, has announced a renewed commitment to his business ventures after a significant global outage disrupted his platform earlier this week.
On Saturday, X experienced widespread connectivity issues affecting tens of thousands of users primarily in the United States, but also in countries including Germany, Spain, France, India, Canada, Australia, and the UK. According to Downdetector.com, a site that monitors service outages, reports of disruptions peaked at over 25,800 incidents around 8:51 a.m. ET before falling to fewer than 650 by midday.
The outage served as a “wake-up call” for Musk, who took to X to share that he would be dedicating himself “24/7” to overseeing critical developments at X, xAI, Tesla, and the upcoming Starship launch. “I must be super focused,” Musk wrote, emphasizing the urgency of rolling out key technologies across his companies.
The social media platform did not immediately provide a statement regarding the cause of the outage, leaving many users and industry watchers speculating about the impact on X’s reliability.
In a broader context, Musk also revealed a strategic pivot away from his recent political expenditures. Having invested nearly $300 million backing conservative political campaigns in the US last year, he announced plans to substantially reduce political spending to prioritize his corporate endeavors. This move comes amid rising concerns among investors about Musk’s divided attention across his multifaceted business empire.
As Musk refocuses on his core enterprises, the outage on X highlights the challenges facing social media platforms and the critical need for stability in digital services that millions rely on daily.
