A fresh weather system is expected to enter Pakistan on May 28, bringing relief to the northern regions after a spell of intense heat, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.
The system is anticipated to bring scattered rain and gusty winds starting Wednesday, particularly impacting northern Pakistan from Thursday onward.
In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), most districts are expected to remain dry and warm, though isolated showers and hailstorms are forecast in areas like Chitral, Swat, Dir, Malakand, Shangla, Kurram, Orakzai, Bajaur, Khyber, and North Waziristan.
Cloudy conditions, thunderstorms, and possible hail are predicted in Mansehra, Abbottabad, Batagram, Tor Ghar, Lakki Marwat, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, Hangu, Mardan, Charsadda, and Swabi. Dust storms and hail may also impact the plains.
On Monday, Peshawar recorded a high of 38°C, Dera Ismail Khan 40°C, Chitral 34°C, Dir 33°C, Swat and Mingora 35°C, Kalam 27°C, and Malam Jabba 22°C.
Meanwhile, severe thunderstorms that recently swept across Punjab have resulted in at least 13 deaths and 92 injuries, according to initial reports from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA). Fatalities were reported in districts including Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Nankana Sahib, and Sialkot. Many of the casualties occurred due to collapsing structures and unsafe shelters during the storm. Mud-brick and poorly constructed houses were particularly affected.
The ongoing heatwave continues to grip large parts of Pakistan, with Sindh experiencing some of the hottest temperatures. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast hot and dry conditions for the province over the next two days, with temperatures expected to reach 46°C in Mithi and Badin and up to 45°C in Jacobabad and Dhalbandin.
Elsewhere in Pakistan, the heatwave is also taking a toll, particularly in the plains of Punjab and Balochistan. Afternoon dust storms and strong winds are expected in parts of Sindh and Balochistan, especially in Jacobabad, Shikarpur, and Dadu.
