Arshad Nadeem Sets Sights on Gold at Asian Athletics Championship

Arshad Nadeem is gearing up for a triumphant return to international competition, with his focus firmly set on winning gold at the upcoming Asian Athletics Championship in South Korea. This event marks his first major appearance since his historic gold medal win at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The Pakistani javelin star is scheduled to compete in the final on May 31. He has been rigorously preparing at Lahore’s Punjab Stadium, dedicating the past five months to intense training following his Olympic success, where his 92.97-meter throw earned Pakistan its first-ever individual Olympic gold medal.

“This is my first big event after the Olympics, and I’ve put in a lot of hard work over the past few months,” Nadeem shared. “I don’t measure myself against others — I compete with myself.”

Now 28, Nadeem is known for his composed demeanor and powerful technique. He already boasts four gold medals from international competitions but remains eager to add more to his collection.

“My aim is to win gold in events I haven’t conquered yet — the World Championship, Asian Championship, Asian Games, and Diamond League,” he said. “Ultimately, all my focus will be on the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028.”

His coach, Salman Iqbal Butt, expressed confidence in Nadeem’s readiness. “The last five to six months of training have shown very promising results,” he noted. “Every competition counts — big or small — and pressure often pushes athletes to perform their best.”

Looking ahead to the World Championship in September, Nadeem also plans to compete in two or three international events to further sharpen his skills.

With high hopes and national pride behind him, Arshad Nadeem now turns his attention to Korea, hoping to begin another golden journey.
