Kane Breaks the Curse: England Captain Finally Lifts First Major Trophy with Bayern

By PakCorrespondent.com Sports Desk: May 5, 2025

After years of coming close, Harry Kane has finally done it. The England striker has won his first major trophy — and he didn’t even need to lace up his boots to do it.

Bayern Munich secured their 34th Bundesliga title on Sunday after Bayer Leverkusen dropped points in a 2-2 draw against Freiburg. That result handed the crown to Bayern, and with it, Kane’s long-awaited first taste of major silverware.

The twist? Kane was suspended for Bayern’s own match against RB Leipzig due to yellow card accumulation, watching the drama unfold from the sidelines with teammates Eric Dier and Thomas Müller. But when the final whistle blew in Leverkusen, the celebrations kicked off — and Kane was front and center, belting out “We Are the Champions” with his teammates.

“It’s classic me to miss the game,” Kane joked earlier in the week. “But I’ll definitely be celebrating harder than anyone else.”

And he wasn’t lying.

A Trophy 15 Years in the Making

Kane’s career has always sparkled with individual brilliance — but until now, that sparkle had never translated into team success. From loan spells at Millwall and Norwich to a 14-year stint at Tottenham Hotspur, Kane piled up goals (213 in the Premier League, 280 for Spurs overall), Golden Boots, and the England all-time scoring record.

But the trophy cabinet stayed stubbornly empty.

Even with finals in the Champions League, League Cup, and Euro 2020, glory continued to elude him. When he made a €100 million move to Bayern last summer, many thought the silverware drought would finally end.

Yet it wasn’t all smooth sailing. A Super Cup loss, early Champions League and DFB-Pokal exits, and third place in the Bundesliga last season had fans and critics wondering: is Kane cursed?

Not anymore.

“I’m absolutely buzzing for him,” said Jürgen Klinsmann, who once made the same switch from Spurs to Bayern. “He’s in top form, works hard, and leads by example. A class act.”

The Numbers Don’t Lie

Kane’s impact this season has been undeniable. With 36 goals in all competitions — 24 in the Bundesliga, 11 in the Champions League — he’s been Bayern’s most consistent threat.

He reached 60 Bundesliga goals in just 60 appearances, outpacing Erling Haaland’s previous record. Throw in 15 assists, and he’s averaging a goal contribution every 72 minutes. That’s world-class efficiency.

“No one works harder,” said Bayern legend Uli Hoeness. “He absolutely deserves this.”

Even new Bayern boss Vincent Kompany was full of praise: “Harry’s attitude is incredible. He plays like a kid still trying to make it — and that energy drives the whole squad.”

More Than Goals: Kane the Leader

But Kane’s influence goes far beyond the stat sheet. He’s embraced German life, showing up at Oktoberfest, taking language lessons, and becoming a respected leader in the locker room.

From bonding with old friends like Eric Dier to building chemistry with Thomas Müller and Konrad Laimer, he’s made Munich feel like home.

“He’s got that Bond-like presence,” joked German commentator Taufig Khalil. “A striker with a licence to score.”

What’s Next for Kane and Bayern?

With the Bundesliga now in the bag, Bayern shift their focus to the FIFA Club World Cup in the U.S. this summer. Kane is expected to remain with the club next season, even as speculation grows around potential new signings like Florian Wirtz.

“I don’t think he’s going anywhere,” said Khalil. “Bayern loves him. The fans love him. And now he’s a winner.”

It’s been a long time coming, but Harry Kane has finally silenced the doubters. The “no trophies” tag is gone — and with Bayern’s firepower, it might just be the first of many.
